Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) Qualification Units
Unit 1: Principles and Practices of Internal Quality Assurance
The Essential Knowledge Base. This is a theory-based unit designed for those who need a comprehensive understanding of the IQA landscape without necessarily practising it. It covers the core mechanics of quality management, including planning, monitoring criteria, and legal compliance.
Best for: Managers or those looking for an introductory oversight of quality systems.
Assessment: Achievement is demonstrated through written assignments and evidence of theoretical understanding.
Note: Completing this unit alone provides the knowledge but does not certify you to practice as an Internal Quality Assurer.
Unit 2: Conducting Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment
The Practical Practitioner Unit. This unit is where the theory is put into action. It is designed for professionals who will be actively quality-assuring assessment practices within their organisation. By combining Unit 1 and Unit 2, you achieve the Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices (12 Credits).
Assessment: Evaluation is based on your real-world performance. This includes observations, examining work products, and professional discussions.
Requirement: To complete this unit, you must be able to monitor a minimum of two assessors, each with at least two candidates of their own.
Unit 3: Leading the Internal Quality Assurance Process
The Leadership & Management Unit, aimed at senior staff, focuses on the strategic side of quality. It covers planning work allocations, monitoring team progress, and providing structured feedback to other IQAs. When combined with Units 1 and 2, this leads to the prestigious Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices.
Best for: Quality Nominees, Lead IQAs, and Training Managers.
Requirement: You must currently be in a position where you manage a team of IQA staff to gather the necessary evidence for this unit.

Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance
You must hold an assessor qualification and be occupationally competent in your area of expertise.
You will need access to a minimum of two assessors who are working with a minimum of two learners each.
You will need to be observed once with one of your assessors. You can do this by arranging for a competent person who holds an Assessor and IQA qualification to observe you, or we will observe you via video evidence.
At present, the registration period for this qualification, set by the Awarding Organisation, is 1 year. You will have 1 year to complete the qualification; however, we would expect learners to achieve it within 3-6 months on average. You can re-register as long as your registration is still “live”. You will be sent an invoice for the fee set by Footstep Training. If you fail to pay within 14 days or your course expires, you will need to pay the full course fee again, which will be the current price on the website. Note- if you select the 6-month study option, you will only be permitted 6-months to achieve.
